Marston’s-backed Beer Town Film Festival has launched its third short film competition to find the best-of-the-best in filmmaking from the UK.
Beer Town Film Festival runs in partnership with Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) and The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton and is being sponsored for the third year running by Marston’s Brewery.
The competition that began in 2018, and has attracted over 1600 entries in the first two years, is expecting an even higher number of entries for year three as awareness grows for the festival competition.
The competition calls for filmmakers to enter any one of four categories to find the best short fiction film, short documentary, music/advertising/promotional film or short animation. There is an additional prize for any local entrants within a 20-mile radius of Burton to recognise and celebrate new and emerging talent from the region.
Films are judged by a panel of nationally and internationally-renowned filmmakers and each category winner receives up £500 in cash and the chance to go on to win the coveted ‘Hop D’Or’ (golden hop) festival award with a further £1,000 in cash.
Marston’s Assistant Brand Manager, Alicia Ford said: “We are very proud to be involved in such a creative and exciting project for Burton. It’s all about putting our town on the map and reminding everyone about Burton-on-Trent’s incredible brewing credentials. At the same time, it’s wonderful to watch the work of so many talented new and emerging filmmakers and hearing the stories behind their work. I would urge anyone to have a go!”
Chris Beech, Assistant Principal and Dean from Burton and South Derbyshire College added: “We’re delighted to continue our support of the Marston’s Beer Town Film Festival, which shines a light on filmmaking talent and provides a platform for films and creativity in the local area.”
The Beer Town Film Festival competition is now open for entries at www.beertownfilmfestival.co.uk until 30th June 2020 and will culminate in a weekend of festival events and screenings at The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton-on-Trent from 2nd to 3rd October 2020.
