The P Word: Sophie Sparham & Roy Marshall
Sophie Sparham is a Derby-based performance poet and writer. She is currently finalising her second YA sci-fi/fantasy novel and has just released ‘Please Mind The Gap’, her first book of poetry.
Her poetry focuses on the political and social including depression, LGBT and women’s issues. She has performed across the UK, including festivals such as Y Not, Shambala and Rebellion.
Sophie’s work appeared as part of the exhibition ‘Loitering with Intent’ in the People’s History Museum in Manchester.
Roy Marshall’s first pamphlet ‘Gopagilla’ (2012) received favourable reviews in the TLS and elsewhere. His first full collection ‘The Sun Bathers’ (2013) was shortlisted for the Michael Murphy award and a second collection ‘The Great Animator’ (Shoestring Press) appeared in 2017. A pamphlet of English language versions of poems by the Italian poet Eugenio Montale is due in 2019
Previously a nurse, Roy now works in adult education.
